Semaver Kumpanya has been performing Molière’s famous play “Cimri” (The Miser) to sold-out audiences for six seasons, with Tansu Biçer’s interpretation and Serkan Keskin’s widely praised performance as Harpagon.
“He is the least human of all people; the coldest-hearted of all living beings; the stingiest of the stingy. There is nothing warm in his love, nothing gentle in his touch. Giving pains him so much that he won’t even offer a greeting — he takes even that. He only takes…”
This is how those who know Cimri describe him.
But who is Cimri, really? Is he truly as cruel, cold-hearted, stingy, and wicked as they say?
Is someone born like that? Or is he merely a written character?
Do people like him actually exist around us?
And what would it be like to live with someone like him?
In Molière’s 17th-century classic Cimri, the play offers a window into the complex dynamics of individuals and families — shifting between focusing on a particular class and making broader generalizations — while revealing strange coincidences and human truths.
